Who knew that a beautiful moonscape exists right here on Earth? It does indeed in central Turkey. The region of volcanically created basalt structures became “fairy chimneys” as the fragile earth around them eroded. Cappadocia’s residents coaxed the otherworldly area into a labyrinth of caves: homes, churches and vast underground cities. Cappadocia is one of the world’s most popular centers for hot air ballooning. To wake at sunup to the signature sound of a balloon going up, to scurry out of your cavern to discover that twenty balloons dot the sky… that’s pretty magical.
