Orvieto is an Umbrian town packed with history and grapes. It rises dramatically above stone cliffs and defensive walls. It has given safety to a pope. It boasts Etruscan, Roman and medieval ruins. It’s most famous for its wines, though, and they are certainly not to be overlooked, but then, neither is this amazing town. Before you is one of two wells Pope Clementi VII had dug for his period of refuge from invading forces.
