This piece resulted from an art trip to the Cinqueterre. Everyone on the painting expedition was enchanted with Portovenere, our home base during the stay. Its fairytale brightness, reminiscent of childhood wonder and fantasy, were a salve to the cynical wounds caused by everyday American life. For me, a child of verbal color as much as of that which is visual, the signatures of Romantic poets Byron and Shelley provided the magic ingredient that completed the beautiful recipe of this town. Those Romantic poets must have drawn so much from this town: you can’t avoid beauty here.
