If you are looking for the ultimate in quite, restful, beautiful vacations, Monemvasia is the place and winter is the time. It’s not cold and there are very few tourists there. And it’s so beautiful. Monemvasia is an immense rock off the Peloponnesian coast. The town is built in a medieval castle; it is full of Byzantine churches and ancient dwellings. The street beyond the town’s entrance is only wide enough for pedestrians and the occasional archaeologist-led mule. You need to go there. Really.
